Essential Services

Oamaru is well serviced with amenities conducive to safe and comfortable travelling.

Our hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department is centrally located at Takaro Park with the local Police Station across the road on Severn Street. The town’s Post Office is at the corner of Severn and Thames Streets.

Public phone boxes are found in the central retail area with phone cards available at bookstores and dairies.

Supermarkets are conveniently sited at Oamaru’s Southern and Northern entrances as well as in the town centre.

Oamaru has two daily newspapers, a weekly newspaper, two networked radio stations and an independent radio station (107FM). Local news and weather reports can be found at 98.4FM and 100FM. Other stations are on 96FM, 99.2FM and 1395AM. Our local television broadcasts via Channel 41 (UHF).

The local Automobile Association branch is on Thames Highway for driving inquiries. Taxi companies operate from central Oamaru while buses to and from other destinations stop on Eden Street and at the i-Site Information Centre. Public toilets are found on Eden Street and Itchen Street.

Information centre staff are happy to help with local itineraries or future travel arrangements.
