 Oamaru and the Waitaki District have inspired generations of resident and non-resident artists and craftspeople. Some our best recognised resident artists include abstract painter Peter Cleverley, wearable art creator, paper-mâché sculptor and fine arts painter Donna Dementé, renowned Oamaru Stone carver Ian Andersen and painter Colin Wheeler whose large oil works of local landscapes and townscapes are synonymous with the District.

The town’s rich history is brought to life by a small but creative group of Victorian-inspired craftspeople including book binder Michael O’Brien and coppice craftsman Bill Blair.
