Four star New Zealand Trust Garden Orore Point is a headland on the Pacific Ocean near Kakanui. The property was built in 2000. Since 2007 the garden has been developed.
Within tall hedges that afford a warmer micro-climate against winds and salt. It is dry, warm and, until this year, had little frost. The soil is volcanic and clay with a rock base.
The garden is arranged in areas, herbaceous, shrubs, duck pond with wild flowers, dry silver borders, vegetables, fruit and herbs. Woodland with native and specimen trees, paddock walks and poultry. It is planted informally in harmony with the countryside, mountains and ocean.
